A Smile Makeover: Life is better when you smile

Smile Makeover

A smile makeover is the process of improving the appearance of the smile through one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as dental veneers, composite bonding, dental implants, teeth straightening and teeth whitening.

A smile makeover takes into consideration your facial appearance, skin tone, hair colour, teeth (colour, width, length, shape and tooth display), gum tissue and lips to develop your ideal smile. Smile makeovers are performed for many reasons and customised according to your unique considerations and needs.

What is it that you like or dislike about your smile or your teeth?

Colour of Filled Teeth?

Silver or amalgam dental fillings can be replaced with natural, tooth-coloured composite restorations, while teeth whitening can improve the colour of stained or dulled teeth. Tooth colour and shading are important considerations during the evaluation of and preparation for various procedures, including porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, composite bonding and dental implants.

Alignment and Spacing?

Teeth that are crooked, overlapping or have gaps between them can be straightened and aligned when necessary through teeth straightening procedures and improved with veneers.

Missing Teeth?

One or more missing teeth can negatively affect the appearance of your smile – as well as affect your bite and increase your risk for tooth decay – making replacement an integral part of oral health and facial aesthetics. Missing teeth can be replaced by dental implants, bridges or partial dentures.

Harmony and Balance?

Uneven, chipped and cracked teeth can be cosmetically bonded for an improved appearance, and a gummy smile can be re-contoured to help improve the overall look of the smile.

Fuller Lips, Smile and Cheeks

An un-shapely or ageing face can be improved or rejuvenated with certain procedures in the smile makeover category, including orthodontics and/or oral maxillofacial surgery.

A cosmetic dentist will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan designed to achieve exactly what you want from your makeover. This treatment plan may consist of many cosmetic and functionally restorative procedures, potentially including teeth whitening, composite bonding, veneers, dental crowns and orthodontics (braces).

Here at College Dental Surgeries we are able to offer a wide variety of treatments to enable you to achieve the smile you desire.

These include:

  • Teeth Straightening

Crooked teeth make many people feel self-conscious, reserved, or even ashamed of their appearance. We are able to offer two different forms of teeth straightening,Smilelign or Clear Braces and Cfast Braces

There are various solutions to treat crooked teeth but most take at least 18 months if not 2-3 years with conventional orthodontic treatment. However the latest in orthodontics – Cfast or Fast Bracescan give you the smile that you want in a fraction of the time taken with conventional treatments. Cfast and Fast Braces uses the latest technology and techniques in dentistry to move your teeth quickly and safely. The key components of the treatment are the use of special nickel titanium wires and a primary focus of moving the teeth that show when you smile.

Clear Braces, also known as Invisible Aligners are a device used to straighten teeth. These are almost transparent and slim, so as to have a minimal effect on your speech and appearance. Clear Braces or Aligners also allow movement of teeth causing little or no discomfort. The procedure usually involves the design of a bespoke removable aligners which gradually move your teeth until an optimum position is reached.

  • Dental Implants

Dr Spilker has a special interest in dental implants and has trained on Dental Implantology. He always uses well researched and established implant suppliers and follows the highest quality surgery guidelines for the placement of implants.

Dental Implants are replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. They are comfortable and stay in place allowing you to speak, smile and eat with confidence.

Losing a crown means losing the visible part of your tooth, however, if you lose the root as well, you have lost the unseen part of your tooth too. The root anchors the tooth to your jawbone, acting as a foundation for the crown. Without the root, the bone around the missing tooth will gradually recede causing the remaining teeth to shift. If this is allowed to continue chewing will become more and more difficult. The bone shrinks after tooth loss and therefore reduce the support for dentures. Loose fitting dentures can cause further problems and lead to sore gum tissue and additional pain.

A dental implant is made of titanium and shaped like a screw. The dental implant is placed into the jawbone and serves as a secure root for the new tooth. Once the dental implant is in place, several different types of dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges or dentures, can be attached.
